Black Panther Wakanda Forever from Marvel was the most popular movie in the United States when it opened. It made $180 million over the weekend, a big boost for struggling theaters. The sequel broke the record for a movie coming out in November in North America. It beat the $158 million record set by “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” in 2013. In addition, the superhero adventure made an impressive $330 million worldwide, with $150 million coming from 55 markets outside the United States.


But its success has a bittersweet side to it. That’s because the people who made the sequel had to deal with a shocking tragedy before filming began. When Chadwick Boseman, the actor who gave “Black Panther” a lot of its heart, died of cancer in 2020. He had just turned 43.


In response, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” was changed into a tribute to the late actor by the film’s director and co-writer, Ryan Coogler. In the movie, the kingdom of Wakanda is trying to deal with the death of King T’Challa. This is an example of how art can be like real life, which makes the movie more emotional.

Challenges During Filming Black Panther


“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” also had several other problems. They made the $250 million movie while COVID was going on. And had to deal with the fact that one of its stars, Letitia Wright, got hurt, which stopped filming. But, of course, that’s nothing compared to how much the theater world has changed since then.

When “Black Panther” came out four years ago, China and Russia were still big movie markets. But it’s getting harder for Hollywood movies to get into China, and since Russia invaded Ukraine, studio movies can’t be shown there anymore. So, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” will be a huge hit worldwide, but it probably won’t make as much as its predecessor, which made $1.4 billion.
